The House that Frick Built: History, Treasures, and Transformation
New York’s Famous Frick Collection: What’s Old is Very New Again
Talk Description:
Since reopening earlier this year, after a lengthy $220 million dollar renovation, The Frick Collection Museum (established in 1935) has become the hottest ticket in New York City! Our talk will dive into the story of this unique New York City institution, which grew out of the personal art collection of American industrialist Henry Clay Frick (1849-1919) and the Gilded Age Beaux-Arts style mansion he had purpose-built in 1914 to display it. In addition to discussing The Frick’s most recent refresh and expansion, we will look closely at some of its most iconic and treasured works, spanning European art from the 14th–19th centuries and including masterpieces by Bellini, Titian, Vermeer, Holbein, Fragonard, Gainsborough, Turner, Goya, and Whistler.
